A wicker basket bakes an excellent decorative accessory for your home or cottage. Not just for "looks" either, these baskets have many practical uses as well. No home is complete without the unique blend of practicality and charm that may only be offered by wicker baskets.
Wicker baskets have history! Returning to thousands of years BC, these baskets were woven from pliable and fibrous plant materials such as oak, ash, willow, cane and reed. Typically whether solid or reed woven base was laid down first, then, the vertical staves were added like a support frame. The circumference, or sides, from the basket were then woven in a over-under pattern to complete the basket. Different weave placements or materials might be used to create different patterns or finishes. A lid or handle could then be added if desired.
